IPSCO operates cut-to-length equipment in Regina, Saskatchewan, Surrey, British Columbia, Toronto, Ontario, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Houston, Texas. The cut-to-length facilities in Toronto, St. Paul, and Houston feature state-of-the-art temper mills and cut-to-length lines. IPSCO processes steel coils of various widths, gauges and grades, cutting them to specific lengths to meet customer requirements.

IPSCO customers include Service Centres, who purchase processed material for re-sale, Fabricators, OEM's (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and Job Shops, who further process the steel.

Major Product Groups
IPSCO facilities have the capability to flatten, level, and cut coiled steel to specified lengths. These lengths range from pieces as short as 2' in length to over 60'. IPSCO produces a wide range of products in yields as high as 100,000 psi, thicknesses up to 1/2" and widths as wide as 96". IPSCO's current lines meet 1/2 tolerance values on all disciplines associated with grading the product.

Temper Leveled Products
IPSCO's Toronto, St. Paul, and Houston Works feature Temper Levelled Cut-To-Length lines that are able to meet 1/4 tolerance on a wide range of product sizes.

The premium finished quality of Temper Leveled Coil (TLC) results in improved performance and total cycle savings through increased productivity and lower finished product rejection rates. The consistency of the product contributes to increased savings through reduced set up costs.

With conventional leveling the external surface of the plate or sheet appears flat, but the core retains its coiled memory. Fabrication processes will release this memory, causing distortion.

IPSCO’s TLC process has solved this problem. The process erases coil memory throughout the plate - eliminating cross-break, cross-bow and edge wave. Whether you Punch, Form or Burn, products remain flat throughout the manufacturing process.

Another aspect of the TLC process is Total Lower Cost, one of its greatest advantages. Consider the savings realized through:

  • J.I.T. deliveries
  • Exact lengths on short notice
  • Cut-to-length deliveries versus mill deliveries
  • Reduced costs of inventory possession
  • Elimination of tip-ups due to coil memory when burning
  • Reduced time in surface preparation resulting in a surface finish that is superior to cross rolled discrete plate
When leveling without tension, only the surface of the material is stretched beyond its yield point. Leveling with tension and compression means the full 100% of the material cross section is stretched beyond its yield point.

IPSCO's TLC temper mills provide assurance that the plate from the coil remains perfectly flat.
