IPSCO Employees Rally Together to Support Beef Industry

On Tuesday August 26, IPSCO employees in Regina, Red Deer and Calgary rallied together in support of the Western Canadian beef industry. Hundreds of employees lined up over the noon hour to enjoy a beef on a bun lunch and also take advantage of an opportunity to purchase beef packs that were half the cost of retail prices before the mad cow crisis. IPSCO wanted to help Canadian beef producers by offering discounted bulk beef purchases through employee payroll deductions.

Between the three plants, workers placed orders for beef totaling close to $70,000. In addition, employees donated close to $1,500 to 4-H Foundations in Saskatchewan and Alberta for the opportunity to enjoy beef-on-a bun.

Peter MacPhail, President of IPSCO Saskatchewan, said they wanted to help get beef moving through the system as well as give workers an opportunity to take advantage of low beef prices. "The recent beef problems have been very significant ones for all of our neighbours and some of our employees, and all of the community," said MacPhail.

IPSCO will be accepting beef orders from past and present employees until Friday.
