Facilities and Products
  • IPSCO's sole line of business is steelmaking and fabricating.
  • The Regina Steelworks has an annual capacity of 1,000,000 tons of steel produced in two electric arc furnaces.
  • The steelworks in Montpelier, Iowa has a capacity of 1,250,000 tons. It specializes in discrete plate but has the capability of producing hot rolled coil.
  • The Alabama Steelworks commenced production at its new 1,250,000 tons per annum steelmaking facility in Mobile County in 2001.  As with IPSCO's other two steelmaking facilities, this facility uses steel scrap as its primary raw material.
  • Electric arc steelmaking uses recycled scrap iron and steel; the steelworks recycled 4.0 million tons of scrap in 2006.
  • IPSCO currently operates eight pipemaking facilities across western Canada and in the U.S.; pipe sizes range from 1.5 inches up to 80 inches in diameter. (Regina, Saskatchewan; Calgary, Red Deer, Alberta; Camanche, Iowa; Geneva, Nebraska; Blytheville, Arkansas) 
  • Through its recently acquired subsidiary, IPSCO Koppel Tubulars Corporation, the Company now operates seamless tubular products ranging from 2 3/8 inches to 4 1/2 inches
  • In December 2006, IPSCO also assumed ownership of ULTRA Premium Oilfield Services, Ltd., a premium connection, accessory and field services business
  • IPSCO operates cut-to-length facilities in Regina, Saskatchewan; Surrey, British Columbia; St. Paul, Minnesota; Toronto, Ontario; and in Houston, Texas. The Toronto, Houston, and St. Paul facilities also feature  temper mills.
  • IPSCO also owns General Scrap, the major scrap supplier to its Regina steel operations.
  • In July 2000, IPSCO opened its Executive Offices in Lisle, Illinois.

Basic History
  • Founded in 1956 as Prairie Pipe Manufacturing Company Ltd. making only pipe.
  • Over the years the company has expanded to have facilities in five provinces and seven states.
  • In 1984, officially changed its name to IPSCO Inc. (The acronym by which it was generally known.)
  • In 1999 IPSCO began reporting its financial results in U.S. dollars.
  • In December 2006, IPSCO completed the purchase of NS Group, a seamless and welded energy tubular producer, for $1.46 billion.
  • In July 2007, IPSCO became a wholly-owned subsidiary of SSAB, a leading Swedish steel company. For more information on SSAB, visit their website.

  • IPSCO employs directly and through its subsidiary companies approximately 4,300 people.
  • Steel is the most recycled material on earth. IPSCO is proud to be part of an industry committed to the environment. IPSCO, like other steel companies, has invested millions to make steelmaking more environmentally friendly.
  • The by-products of steelmaking are converted into other useful products. For example, slag is used for roadway and parking lot landfill and a minor by-product, iron oxide removed from cooling water, is used as a raw material by cement companies.
  • All of IPSCO's operating facilities are registered under the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Systems and have received ISO 14001 certification of their Environmental Management Systems.
  • IPSCO is North America's #1 maker of plate and #3 producer of energy tubular products
